Effect Of Planting Distance On Hybrid Corn Maize (Zea Mays L.) Growth As Ruminant Feed

This study aims to determine the effect of spacing on the growth of hybrid maize (Zea mays L.) as feed for ruminants. This research was conducted in February-May 2022 at the Forage Crop Experimental Garden and the Forage Crop Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Padjadjaran University, Sumedang. The study was conducted using the experimental method and using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 types of treatment and 4 repetitions so that 20 experimental units were obtained, with the following treatment arrangement P1 = Spacing 30x20 cm, P2 = Spacing 50x20 cm, P3 = Spacing 70x20 cm, P4 = spacing of 35x40 cm and P5 = spacing of 25x40 cm. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and further tests were carried out with Duncan's multiple range test to determine differences between treatments. The results showed that the treatment of various spacings had an effect on the growth of maize (Zea mays L.). P4 treatment produced the highest plant height with an average of 212.45 cm; treatment P5 produced the highest number of leaves with an average of 13.4 and treatment P3 produced the largest stem diameter with an average of 11.24 mm.
